Usage
Databox allows you to perform custom searches of your music files on the fly. With Databox, you could create a search for all songs from 1980, or all songs in a particular genre, or from a particular artist.
Databox is available in the browse plugins menu, and upon start asks for a filename to edit. The filename to edit can have an .rsp suffix, but its not required, when omitted, databox will add the suffix by itself.
If the file in question already exists, it is opened for editing, if it doesn't exist, a new search query file is created.
Once in Databox, one can use up/down to change the tokens that are possible in the current position, and choose a token (such as artist, genre, album, filename, etc.) by clicking the joystick (or hitting play on Archos models), after which databox will advance to the next token,
when selecting a string or number, it'll ask input to which string / number. At any time, stop can be pressed to move to any token in the stream, after which you can press the joystick to alter it. Pressing stop twice will abort databox. If you're finished with the query, and the query is correct, then at the end of the query databox will present an
<END> option, which, when selected, will save the file and end databox.
The databox file is saved in the root directory, denoted by a magnifying glass icon. To run the search, click on the file. RockBox will then run the search (which takes a few seconds), and will generate a playlist (again in the root) called search.m3u.
Related to this is the PluginSearchengine page, which has more technical info about how Databox does searches.
